SHORT KILLED MONDAY Struck by an express train while at work yesterday morning at 5.40 o'clock at Denholm, Robert B. Short, aged 32, of 316 Chestnut avenue, a brakeman on the Middle division, was instantly killed. Short was engaged in cutting off the engine from the train at Denholm, previous to finishing his run and he stepped to the No. 1 track to signal the engineer when he was struck. The body was hurled a number of feet. The brakeman was dead when picked up. No. 42 was running behind schedule time and was in charge of Conductor J. E. Robison and Engineer J. L. Lutz. The train was hauled by engine No. 3354. Short left Altoona at 9.30 o'clock last evening. The body was removed to the morgue at Denholm and was brought to Altoona yesterday afternoon and removed to the family home. The remains are badly mangled. Robert Barton Short was born at Waterloo, Juniata county, on Dec. 4, 1896, the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Short. He was married on July 10, 1915, in Bucyrus, Ohio, to Miss Blanche Swails and he has resided in Altoona since Jan. 1, 1918, when he went to work with the Pennsylvania railroad. Surviving are the father at Waterloo, Pa., the widow and two children: Anna May, aged 2 1/2 years and Mary, aged 1 year. Altoona Times, Altoona, Pa., Tuesday Morning, November 12, 1918
