Green, of Capoose Avenue, Woodlawn Park, met with a terrible death about 7 o'clock this morning. He was run over by a train of cars and his head severed from his body. Young Green was one of the Tribune carrier boys in North Scranton and at the time of the accident was distributing papers to his customers. He was going along Green Ridge Street, near the crossing of the Delaware and Hudson tracks, with his paper bag, containing several papers, thrown over his shoulder. As he neared the crossing he noticed a trip of coal cars coming along and started to run across the tracks thinking he could get over before the train. It was a fatal mistake, for just as he stepped on the track he was struck by the first car of the trip and thrown beneath the wheels. Several persons saw the accident and signaled the engineer, who brought his train to a standstill after four cars had passed over the unfortunate boy's body, which was badly mutilated. When the portions of the body had been gathered together they were carried into the freight station near by, and Coroner Roberts summoned. The latter arrived in a short time and after examining the remains ordered them removed to Raub's undertaking establishment and prepared for burial. The cars which killed Green were attached to engine No. 16. in charge of Engineer Wescott, which is the same engine which caused the death of Roy Pearce Thursday morning. Scranton Times, January 20, 1900 The funeral of the late Harold Green was held from the home of his parents yesterday afternoon.
