Kelly Sr., 106, died peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012. He was born in Scranton, Pa., on Sept. 11, 1906, to the late James and Mary (O'Boyle) Kelly. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret (Judge) Kelly in 1999, a brother, Michael Kelly, sisters, Mayme O'Connor, Peg McNally, and Ann Langan. Mr. Kelly is survived by his children, James (Tom) Kelly Jr. (Judy), Mary (Edward) Joyce, William (Carol) Kelly, and seven loving grandchildren and spouses, Mari Kelly, Erin Kelly (Daniel Cullen), Mike (Deborah) Joyce, Jim Kelly, Pat Kelly, Tom (Jill) Joyce, Megan Kelly, and one great-grandchild, Brady James Cullen and several nieces and nephews. He was lovingly called "Grandpa Kelly" or Mr. K. Sr. by many family friends. He was a proud World War II veteran, serving honorably in the Pacific. He was awarded two Bronze Stars. Upon his return to Scranton, Pa., he worked for and retired from the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad. The family gratefully thanks the staff and residents at Good Shepherd Fairview Home, where Mr. Kelly resided since December 2000. His life while there was enriched daily by the respect and kindness shown to him, especially by Cameo Court staff, since August 2010. A special thanks to family friend, Paulette Rafferty, for her loving care of Grandpa Kelly. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Mary, Mother of God Parish (formerly Holy Rosary), Scranton, Pa. Family and friends are invited to the Knight O'Donnell Funeral Home, 323 William St., Scranton, Pa., 9 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Burial follows at Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
