Hosie Phillips, aged 97 years, died at the home of his son, Ziba Phillips, of 136 Edwards Court yesterday morning. At Pittston nearly a hundred years ago he was born, and for about seventy-five years he has resided in Scott Township, where he became one of the pioneer settlers of that district, residing for a number of years in a log cabin. He watched very closely the development of this city and the Lackawanna Valley and could relate very interesting stories. He was widely and favorably known throughout Scott Township, where for many years he was engaged in farming. He was a member of the Mt. Bethel Baptist Church. About two months ago he came here to reside with his son. Deceased is survived by four sons, John, Simon, Benjamin, of Scott Township and Ziba Phillips, of this side and four daughters, all of Scott Township; Mrs. Liddle White, Mrs. Emily White, and Mrs. Densy White, all of Scott Township, and a half-brother, George Phillips, residing in the west.
