SARAH WICKIZER died October 29, 1892 services were held at the residence on South Main Avenue and interment was Made at Forest hill. The funeral of Mrs. Wickizer were held at her late residence 330 on South Main avenue. There was a mass of beautiful white flowers, for which many thanks are offered. Also thanks to the choir and many friends who so kindly assisted the family in their bereavement. Mrs Wickizer was born in Slocum Hollow, January 3, 1816. She was the wife of Philip Wickizer and daughter of Steven Griffin and in Company with her husband, joined the M-E class at Raizorville fifty-two years ago. In 1844, she was transferred to the M-E. Church of Hyde Park and has ever since maintained a Christian character, ever faithful to the church, husband, children. Mrs. Wickizer for the past few months attended the Scranton Baptist Church (with her daughter) owing to her failing health, and the last time she was out she complained on her return home of feeling chilly. A congestive chill let in, from which she never recovered. When asked if she was afraid to die, she replied "I am not. Why should I be? My trust is in the lord. He is with me by night and by day. I feel his presence ever." She leaves a husband, aged and feeble, in his 78th year and five children to mourn their unhappy loss, respectively, Stephen E. Wickizer, William H. Wickizer, Alonza J. Wickizer, Mrs. Mary Sonetts, Mrs. Hettie Niles, the later the youngest of the family, who has always stayed with her aged parents, and has ever been a stay and comfort in their declining years. For in Jesus was stayed her gentle trust from early girlhood until the last, when she sought the better life beyond, leaning to life's struggle, daughters and sons; We do not regret, our loss is her heaven gained; As we sorrow we wish her not back again. Yet one is left, so dear, with faltering step, My father in declining years and feeble, yet with us he mingles his silent tears. His face betokens the sorrow he bears.
