All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/lancaster/ _______________________________________________ Pension Application Of Daniel Cypher, Natl Archives Microseries M804, Roll #__, Application #R2612 Bedford County, Pennsylvania, April 16th, 1833, Daniel Cypher, a resident of Hopewell Township, aged 79 years on March the 17th last: “That sometime in the summer (of the year 1777 as deponent believes), he enlisted in the army of the United States at ?Mead Fort with a certain Patrick Duffey, and served in the artillery commanded by Colonel Proctor of the Pennsylvania line. That he enlisted as aforesaid for 18 months and served during the term of his enlistment in said corps doing duty at Mead? Fort aforesaid in the Delaware until a short time previous to his discharge, when he was marched to the White Marsh, where he was discharged.” “That during the time that he was enlisted and doing duty as aforesaid, Mead Fort was twice attacked by ships of the line of the enemy, and which said ships were repulsed. That during both attacks as aforesaid, Colonel Proctor was there in person and commanded the said corps of artillery, to which he belonged. That during said period, that he was there stationed at said fort. General Mifflin was occasionally there. That at the time of his said enlistment, he resided at Cre____ Township in Lancaster County, PA, but that, having gone to Mead Fort, he enlisted there. That he received a written discharge, but that the same cannot now be found.”
