A Poor Family.

The family of Amos Albright, who reside at No. 547 Beaver street, are in a 
destitute condition.  The wife has four small children, the youngest of which 
was born but a short time ago.  The husband and father is in jail, where his 
wife had him committed for five days on Tuesday, after he had beaten her.  He is 
being well fed by the county, while his family are almost starving.  Albright 
works, but spends most of his money for rum.  When under the influence of liquor 
he requently beats his wife and otherwise abuses her.


Went to His Western Home.

Martin P. Miller, of Russell City, Kansas, who has been on a visit in the East, 
left for home on Fast Line this afternoon.  Mr. Miller, who is a son-in-law of 
Levi W. Groff, of this city, left Lancaster county eleven years ago, and this is 
his first visit to his old home in that time.  He is extensively engaged in the 
grain business in the West.



Peter Fornwalt, of Minnesota, is on a visit to friends in town.  He was a former 
resident, and was a member of the Columbia band.

The funeral of Mrs. Emma Heinaman was held this afternoon at 2 o'clock, from her 
late home.

James A. Ryon, reporter on the News, has the grippe and is confined to his home.
