(Lancaster, Pa.) January 23, 1880 The public should not forget that the entertainment for the benefit of the free soup fund comes off in the opera house to-morrow evening. Apart from the fact that entertainment is given in the interest of a most worthy charity, and should for that reason alone receive a liberal patronage, it should also be remembered that the entertainment itself is well worth the price charged for admission tickets. The first part of the performance will consist of an exhibition of the wonderful powers of Edison's phonograph or speaking machine, and an explanatory lecture on the same by J. J. Sprenger, who has exhibited it in many prominent cities in Europe. The second and concluding part of the entertainment will be a variety performance conducted by Mr. Dan. Clemmens, Jr., assisted by the best talent in Lancaster. Let there be a large turnout to-morrow evening, that the receipts may add handsomely to the soup house company.
