Brown, a Prominent Citizen of the Lower End. Wednesday evening, Lea P. Brown, a well-known and highly respected citizen of West Drumore township, died at his home after a brief illness from la grippe. The deceased was seventy-three years of age, and was one on the most prominent men of that section of the county. He was much esteemed for his many sterling qualities, and his marked business abilities were such that friends and neighbors frequently sought his counsel in financial matters. In politics he was a Whig, until the formation of the Republican party, when he entered the ranks of the latter, and has ever since been a staunch adherent to it. He has served several times as school director, and his work in the advancement of educational interests of the township was done as heartily and with the same force that characterized the management of his individual affairs. He also was elected to various other township offices, the duties of all of which he performed with credit to himself and the township. The farm upon which he lived has been in the Brown family since 1750. The deceased was twice married, his first wife, who was Miss Malinda Patterson, died childless in 1848. In 1855 he married Miss Elizabeth Philena Patterson, who, with two sons, survives. His funeral was held to-day, a number from the city being present, among whom was J. Hays Brown, Esq., a nephew of the deceased. The Lancaster Daily Examiner, Saturday, January 25, 1890
