John Dorwart, a well known and one of the oldest residents of this city, died on Saturday evening at his home, No. 39 Sherman street. He was an invalid for five years, but was confined to bed for only a few weeks. He was a native of this city and was born on December 11, 1813. He learned the trade of shoemaker and carried on that business for many years. He was a Democrat and in his younger years he took an active interest in politics. He was one of the oldest members of Monterey lodge of Odd Fellows. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran church. Mr. Dorwart was twice married. His wife and three* children survive, John, Jonas, Minnie and Charles, of this city, and Samuel and Emmanuel of Philadelphia. His funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon with interment in Lancaster cemetery. Lancaster Intelligencer, Monday, April 19, 1897 *Typed as written in newspaper.
