REBECCA JANE FERGUSON

Mrs. Rebecca Jane Ferguson, the youngest daughter of the late Samuel B. and Mary 
Moore, died at her residence near the Buck, Lancaster county, on Wednesday 
morning, April 2, 1890, in the seventy second year of her age, being born 
February 23, 1819.  In early life she taught a few terms in the local schools, 
but the most part lived at the old homestead with her mother.  She was married 
March 15, 1860, to Robt. Ferguson, of Colerain township, and twenty years of 
connubial happiness were her portion till the death of her husband a few years 
ago.  Since that time a gentle melancholy settled upon her, and four years ago a 
slight stroke of apoplexy affected her to a large extent.  At last death 
relieved her of constant and severe mental and physical pain.  She came to the 
home of her fathers to die, but will sleep by the side of her husband in the 
Presbyterian churchyard at Union, in Colerain township.  In very early life Mrs. 
Ferguson connected herself with the Presbyterian church of Chestnut Level, and 
all her days were one of piety and usefulness.  Her early years gave a charm to 
social intercourse, and her latter days gave the mobition(?) of saintly conduct 
and the kindly advice of a generous and pious heart.  She influenced largely the 
social, religious and domestic affairs of her neighborhood for years, and so the 
multitude in the home of her birth and in the place of her adoption will follow 
her with heartfelt sorrow to her last resting place.  After passing the 
Psalmist's limit, having borne faithfully the burdens of life and served God 
with a singleness of purpose, she has gone to that still country where the 
heaviest laden of us all will lay down our cares at last.

Mrs. Ferguson was a member of one of the oldest and best known families of 
Drumore township and one noted for its strength and longevity.  The eldest, 
James Moore, died in young manhood from an accident received in raising a 
building.  The youngest son, Samuel Blair Moore, died three years ago, aged 
86(?).  These are the only breaks the family of Moore children have known.  
There survive to mourn the loss of Mrs. Ferguson the following brothers and 
sisters:  Francina B. Rusk, widow of the late Saml. M. Rusk, Robt. W. Moore, 
Mary R. Long, widow of the late John Long, of Conowingo Mills, and Lydia 
Cameron, widow of the late Capt. James Cameron, of York county.  Many nephews 
and nieces came from far and wide to pay the last tribute of respect to an aunt 
who was kind to them in youth and ever rejoiced in their progress and 
prosperity.

"I am the Resurrection and the Life," saith the Lord, "whoso believeth in me 
shall not perish but have everlasting Life."
