The Daughter of the Well-Known Teacher R. S. Gates, Expires Suddenly. Miss Clara, only daughter of Richard S. Gates, the well-known school teacher, residing at No. 541 West Chestnut street, died Thursday night at 10:30 from hemorrhages of the stomach. Her death was sudden and startled the community in which she lives. Up to Thursday morning she was gradually improving and was considered out of danger by her physician, but about four o'clock she was attacked with a severe hemorrhage and a fainting sensation, which resulted in her death. She became unconscious after her last attack, and gradually sank lower and lower until death relieved her of her sufferings. Miss Gates was ill about two weeks and first felt indisposed while on a visit to friends in Manheim. She came home on January 3, and the next morning at four o'clock she was prostrated by the first hemorrhage, and has not left her bed since. She was a consistent member of St. Paul's Reformed church, and took communion at the last sacrament. She was a loving and devoted daughter and leaves a host of friends who deeply mourn her sudden demise. Miss Gates was a pupil at the Girls' High School, but did not graduate, as the class of which she was a member was not allowed to graduate by the School Board. The funeral will be held on Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, from her parents' residence. The Lancaster Daily Examiner, Friday, January, 17, 1890 DIED. GATES.
