Gerber died at his home, No. 468 Manor street. He had been sick for a long time with a trouble of the kidneys but he had a stroke on Thursday, and that is what caused his death. The deceased was in the 46th year of his age and was a son of John Gerber, of this city, where he was born and raised. William learned the blacksmithing trade and for many years worked at the trade at Capt. Edward Edgerley's shops. He was struck in the face by a piece of steel about eight years ago and from that accident lost the sight of one eye. He was an excellent mechanic and had a great many friends. He belonged to Lancaster Lodge of Odd Fellows and the Schiller Verein. He leaves a wife and six children. Lancaster Intelligencer, Monday, May 10, 1897
