Lancaster, Pa., Feb. 18 - Major M. A. Gherst, formerly of Lebanon, died to-day at the home of his daughter at Millersville, Lancaster county, aged 69. He served in the Civil War and was a Colonel in the National Guard of Pennsylvania on the staff of General Gobin. He was also a past department commander of the State G. A. R., a member of the State Orphan School Commission and was recently appointed to a place in the Workmen's Bureau. His widow and five children survive.
