A Native of Germany Who Came To This City Fifty Years Ago. Sebastian Grau, an old and respected resident of Lancaster, died Monday evening at 5 o'clock at his residence, No. 313 West Orange street, in the 81st year of his age. He had been in failing health for some time past owing to his advanced age, but was confined to his bed only about three weeks. He had no special disease, but his physical system was broken down by age. Mr. Grau was a native of Baden, Germany, and came to this country in 1833, bringing with him a wife and one child. He settled in Lancaster and raised a large family, of whom five sons and two daughters survive him. The eldest son, Frederick, is a resident of Sante Fe, New Mexico; William, for many years an engineer on the Pennsylvania railroad, is now in Knoxville, Tenn.; John and Charles live in this city, and Daniel in Renovo, Pa. The daughters, Mrs. Mary Steiger and Mrs. Louisa Frecht, live in this city. Mrs. Grau, the mother, also survives her husband. Mr. Grau was an honest, industrious, prudent man, and by good management accumulated a comfortable fortune – principally in real estate. He was a pious Christian, a member of St. John's German Reformed church from the time the congregation was formed, and before that time was a member of Zion Lutheran church. His funeral will take place Thursday at 2 p.m. The services will be held in St. John's church, and the interment will be made in Zion cemetery. Lancaster Daily Intelligencer, Tuesday, January 4, 1887
