Samuel Groff Expires at His Home on North Queen Street. Samuel Groff, proprietor of the Novelty Store, No. 320 North Queen street, died suddenly at his home last night. The cause of death was heart disease. Mr. Groff was in his usual health and spirits during the day. He ate a hearty supper and appeared well until about eight o'clock. He retired about that hour and between eight and nine o'clock he complained of being exceedingly ill. Mrs. Groff heard her husband make a strange sound in his throat, and turning to look at him saw his head roll to one side. A light was procured and the horrified wife saw that her husband was dead. Dr. M. D. Lederman was summoned and he pronounced death the result of heart disease. Deceased was born at Groff's store, Upper Leacock township. He was a son of Daniel Groff. When a lad Mr. Groff came to this city and was employed in a couple of stores here as a clerk. For a time he was in Lititz, and ran the brewery in partnership with his brother-in-law, D. B. Landis. He then removed to Cordelia, where he ran the general store connected with the furnaces, located near Columbia. Mr. Groff was proprietor of the Cordelia store for eight years. Since August last he has been in the Novelty store on North Queen street, which he established. Deceased was about fifty-nine years of age. He has been under treatment for heart trouble with Dr. J. W. Kinard for some time. A wife and two daughters survive. The funeral will take place on Saturday afternoon at Groffdale; services will be held in the Old Mennonite meeting house.
