The deceased was one of the most progressive farmers in the lower end, and his property is a model of its kind. He was a cultured man, and devoted his energies to bringing his farm to the highest state of cultivation. His mother, whose maiden name was Swift, and a single sister, Matilda, lived with the deceased, who had never married. Another sister, Mrs. Ralph Clendennin, lives at Fairmount.
