Hershey Dies Suddenly From Heart Disease. Benjamin L. Hershey, a well known resident of Leacock township, was found dead on the road near his home shortly after 3 o'clock on Wednesday afternoon. He left his home to haul stone to his farm for the purpose of repairing a fence. He had the stone on a sled, and when found he was lying on the road close to the sled. The supposition is that when he was attacked with heart affection, to which he was subject, he stopped his horses, and the attack proving fatal, he rolled from the sled to the road. He was found by Benjamin Kreider, who summoned assistance. Deputy Coroner H. B. Slack was notified of the death, and he empaneled as his jury M. H. Mylin, Alexander Carpenter, Jacob Kreider, Isaac Kreider, John C. Beiler and John Weaver. Doctors Bryson and Sample were the coroner's physicians. The verdict of the jury was that death resulted from heart disease. Deceased was in his fifty-ninth year, and was for many years engaged in the mercantile business at Monterey. He retired a few years ago, and has since lived near Gordonville, in Leacock township. His wife was a daughter of the late Daniel McKillips, and the following children survive: Mrs. Amos B. Myer, of Monterey; Daniel, Elam and Annie, of Leacock township. His surviving brothers are: Christian, of Bareville; County Treasurer E. H. Hershey, Emanuel, of Gordonville, and John S., of this city. He was a member of the Mennonite church. His funeral will take place on Saturday morning at ten o'clock at the house, and services at Hershey's meeting house. Lancaster Intelligencer, Thursday, May 13, 1897
