The Cause Was Old Age – She was Eighty-five. Mrs. Fanny Herzog, who probably was one of the oldest women in Lancaster, died between 2 and 3 o'clock this morning at her home, No. 31 West Lemon street. Although she would have been 85 years old next February, she was a remarkable woman in every respect, as she retained her faculties and was even up and bout the house as late as Sunday. She was taken to her bed by disabilities brought about by age, and her death was the result. Mrs. Herzog was born near Hunsecker's mill, on the Conestoga creek, above Eden, and her maiden name was Heisse (sic s/b Heiss). She came to Lancaster when quite young and has since resided here. Her husband, Jacob Herzog, has been dead for many years, and she leaves the following children: Jacob, Joseph, Samuel, Mrs. Elizabeth Nixdorf, of Altoona, and Mrs. Clara Hubley, of this city. Mrs. Herzog probably was the oldest member of Grace Lutheran church, and a very estimable lady. The funeral will take place on Saturday.
