HESS died at his home in Quarryville, Lancaster county, on Tuesday, Feb. 4th, at the age of 54. He began life as a laborer in the stone quarries, but in a few yhears started business on his own account. He burned lime and dealt in coal and lumber for several years. he was one of the leading spirits in building the Quarryville railroad of which he was a stockholder and director at the time of his death. At the age of twenty he married Miss Catharine LEFEVER, whom with eight children are left to mourn his loss. Diabetes was the cause of his death. He was a member of Washington Lodge of Masons.
