Death of a Former Columbian.

  The Misses Hess, of Walnut street, yesterday received the sad 
intelligence of the death of their brother, Mr. George M. Hess, at one 
time a resident of Columbia, and for twenty years a prominent banker of 
Flat Bush, New York.  The cause of Mr. Hess' death was pulmonary 
consumption, he having been afflicted for several months with that 
disease.  Deceased was well-known by the older portion of our community 
who will be pained to learn of his death.  Mr. Hess was a brother of W. 
U. Hess, formerly of Columbia, and now one of the managers of the 
Western Union Company, with headquarters in Chicago.
