HOFFMAN DEAD, He Was a Letter Carrier For Seventeen Years - Sick For Seven Months. Letter Carrier Frank W. Hoffman died at 11 o'clock this morning at his home, No. 59 South Marshall street. Four years ago he had a severe attack of pneumonia, since which time he has been in failing health. He was obliged to retire from duty as a letter carrier on November 24, since which time he was confined to the house and for the past six months to bed. His physician gives bronchial catarrh as the cause of death. Mr. Hoffman was a son of Rebecca and the late William N. Hoffman, and was born in this city on August 15, 1857. He learned the trade of currier at the tannery of A. A. Myers, and subsequently was employed at Locher's tannery. He was appointed a letter carrier by Postmaster Marshall in 1884, and served until Postmaster Slaymaster was installed into office, when he was retired. He was reappointed by post master Griest in 1889, and served continuously until failing health compelled him to quit work. He took an active interest in military affairs, and served as an officer in several local military companies. He was captain of the Lancaster (??)ncibles at the time of his death. He was a member of Blue Cross castle, No. 46, Knights of the Golden Eagle, and was captain of Blue Cross commandery for several terms. He was also a member of Conestoga council, Artisans' Order of Mutual Protection, and of Trinity Lutheran church. His wife and these children survive: Charles S., Lloyd C., and Viola M.
