DEATHS

KILLINGER – May 17, 1885, in Lancaster, Pa., David Killinger, in the 72d year of 
his age.

The relatives and friends of the family are respectfully invited to attend the 
funeral, from his late residence, No. 113 East King street, on Thursday 
afternoon at 2 o’clock.  Interment at Woodward Hill cemetery.

David Killinger, butcher, died suddenly at his residence No. 113 East King 
street, Sunday night at 11 o’clock, in the 72d year of his age.  He had been in 
failing health for four or five months past, the result of which badly affected 
his lungs.  He was no confined to his room, however, being able to attend to his 
business up to Saturday.  Even on Sunday he was about the house as usual, and 
did not take his bed until 7 o’clock in the evening.  Being unable to rest he 
arose again at 10, but was soon afterwards attacked with difficulty of breathing 
and being put to bed again died within an hour.

Mr. Killinger, was a native of Lancaster, and for forty-one years occupied the 
house in which he died.  Prior to that he owned a fine farm on the Harrisburg 
turnpike four miles west of this city.  About thirty years ago he bought 
Hardwicke, a fine country seat on the Conestoga a short distance east of this 
city, but his family after having lived there for a few years returned to their 
old home in the city.  Before and during the war Mr. Killinger did an extensive 
trade in droving in connection with his butchering business, spending a 
considerable part of his time in the West, but for many years past his business 
has been principally confined to this county.  He was upright and honorable in 
all his dealings and held in high esteem by all who knew him.  He was a lifelong 
member of Trinity Lutheran church and regularly attended it’s services.  He 
leaves a wife, two sons and a daughter, all married and well-known in this city 
– his daughter being the wife of Amos McCartney, of California.  His funeral 
will take place Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock.  Interment at Woodward Hill 
cemetery.
