DR EMANUEL W. LONG Emanuel W. Long, the well-known veternarian, residing at Sporting Hill, Rapho Township, died suddenly and unexpectedly at his home between seven and eight o'clock on Sunday evening. Aged 62 years, 5 months and 10 days. Deceased had for some years past been a sufferer from brights disease of the kidneys, and in the spring had a very severe attack. He rallied and improved and became strong enough to follow his chosen profession. On Sunday he was called upon to attend several sick animals, and until evening was greatly fatigued, but aside from this bad no reason to complain. It was after seven o'clock when he returned home from his last call. He had occaision to go to his water closet, and not returning for awhile his wife called him but recieving no reply she took a lantern and went in search of him, and was shocked upon opening the door to the building to see him crouched together in one corner, and in an unconcious, dying condition., and before help could reach him he had expired. He was carried to the house and Dr. Sieling was summoned, but upon his arrival he could do no more than pronounce him dead. Mr. Long was a native to this Borough, and for many years conducted a blacksmith shop on South Prussian Street, and later became a practicing veternarian and proprietor of a livery. About ten years ago he moved to Sporting Hill, Where he gave his entire attention to the practice of his profession. He was a member of Selab Lodge of Odd Fellows, of this Borough. Deceased was twice married, of the first union the following children survive, Henry C, residing at Lancaster ; Mary, wife of Joseph Lehman at Penryn ; Sarah, wife of Joseph Wickenhieser, at Sporting Hill ; Lizzie, wife of Joseph Wagner, at Mt. Joy ; Will , at Rochester NY and Susan, wife of Phares S. Mohn, at Salunga. With his second wife there survive two children, Frank and Laura, who are at home. Reuben B. Long and Mrs Elizabeth Neavling, of this borough, and Mrs Emma Carpenter, of Philadelphia, are surving brother and Sisters. The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon with services in St Paul Reformed Church, this Borough, and interment at the Fairview Cemetery. Rev. warren J. Johnson, of lancaster officiated.
