He was a most useful man in the community and will be missed. For some weeks he had been a sufferer with dropsy which ultimately resulted in his death. His age was 64 years and 26 days. He leaves seven children, five sons and two daughters, his wife and one son having died about fourteen years ago. For many years he was engaged as a printer, a scrivener, justice of the peace and notary public, and was doing a good business. He was also local agent for the Northern Mutual Fire Insurance Company of Lancaster county, for the past twenty four years. His funeral which took place on Sunday afternoon was one of the largest functions that Adamstown ever witnessed. The services at the house were conducted by Rev. C. S. Brown. In the Evangelical church Rev. Mr. Brown preached from Psalm 37:37, in the German language. Presiding Elder Rev. S. S. Chubb followed on the same text preaching in the English language. The remains rested in a beautiful silver mounted casket. The silver plate contained the word “Father”. The bearers were Richard Musser, David Landis, Henry G. Mohn, Henry Witman, A. Ruth, A. Gottshall, J. Musselman and Daniel Gehman. The remains were laid to rest in the family burying lot in the Adamstown cemetery. There were friends in attendance from Philadelphia, Lancaster, Ephrata and other places. Ephrata Review, Friday, September 7, 1894
