(Lancaster, Pa.) 1864-1928: February 18, 1880 James Maffat, residing at 521 Poplar street, died very suddenly about one o'clock today in a small building in the yard of Moore's Lamb hotel, on South Queen street. He had been around the hotel for a time during the forenoon and about an hour before he was found he went out of the bar-room to the shed in the yard. Afterwards some of the parties at the hotel had occasion to go to the shed, and upon doing so he found Moffat lying down. The man was not certain whether he was dead at the time. A physician was sent for and he came in a few moments, when it was found that Moffat was dead. The deceased was a bricklayer by trade, and was well known throughout the city. He was about 48 years of age, and he leaves a wife, but no children. Coroner Mishler was summoned at once, and he impaneled a jury. They rendered a verdict of death from heart disease.
