Martin, son of the late Squire John C. Martin, of Ephrata, well and favorably known in the northern section of the county died at the Lancaster County Hospital on Monday morning from the effects of a paralytic stroke sustained last July a year ago. The deceased was thirty seven years of age. In early life he learned telegraphy from the late Horace Fry, of Ephrata, and, after holding various responsible positions at Shamokin and Williamsport, became train dispatcher at New Haven, Conn. In July, 1909, he was stricken, and, being unable to work thereafter, made his home with his sisters, Mrs. S. H. Roming, of Ephrata, and Mrs. Wm. H. Ranck of this boro, when, his mind failing, he was removed to the County Hospital. Mr. Martin was a member of Shamokin Council No. 71, O. U. A. M., also of the American Mechanics at Shamokin, and was a member of the Masonic lodge. For many years he had affiliated with the Lutheran Church, and was a highly esteemed resident of Ephrata and vicinity. The following brothers and sisters survive: Mrs. George Stauffer, of Kennett Square, Pa.; C. J. Martin and W. H. Martin, Martindale; Mrs. Caskey Showalter and Mrs. Wm. H. Ranck of this boro; Katie H., at Ephrata, and Mrs. S. P. Romig, of Ephrata. The funeral was held on Thursday at 1:30 o'clock p.m. from the Romig residence, with interment in the Bergstrasse Cemetery.
