Zachariah McGinnis, a former resident of this city, died on Tuesday at his home in Philadelphia. He was confined to the house since Christmas, and death resulted from dropsy. He was 48 years old and a son of Christian McGinnis. He attended the public schools of this city after which he learned the blacksmith trade at the coach works of Altick & McGinnis, his father being in charge of the blacksmithing branch of that business. Deceased worked for that firm for many years and also for other coachmakers in this city. About five years ago he removed to Philadelphia, where he worked at his trade until ill health compelled him to retire. His remains were brought to-day to his father's home, No. 308 West Grant street, from which place the funeral will take place. His wife, three sons and one daughter survive. John A. and Christian McGinnis, of this city, are surviving brothers; Mrs. George Gormley, of this city, and Mrs. John Dyer, of Philadelphia, are surviving sisters. He was a member of the old volunteer fire department, having been a member of the Friendship Fire company for many years. He was an active member of the company and rarely missed a fire. He had many friends in this city who will regret to hear of his death. Lancaster Intelligencer, Wednesday, August 11, 1897
