Washington Montgomery Falls on the Street, and Dies Soon Afterwards. Washington Montgomery, a prominent resident of Colerain township, who lived near Bartville, died very suddenly in this city on Tuesday afternoon. He came to Lancaster from Quarryville on the noon train with his nephew, Manassa Montgomery. While walking on West King street, on his way from the station, he fell upon the pavement in front of the store of the Lancaster Carpet company. He was taken to the Franklin house, where he stopped when in town, in a carriage, and was there but a short time when he died. Dr. Yeagley, who had been called in, stated that heart disease was the cause of his death. Mr. Montgomery was 77 years of age, and was born in Colerain. He was a member of a very well known family, and was beloved and respected by all who knew him. He was a bachelor, and formerly was a farmer, but for years had lived retired with his nephew. He had two sisters and two brothers, but they are dead, and he was the last of his family. In politics he was an ardent Democrat, and held township offices at different times. He was well known in this city as well as in the Lower End. The father of the deceased was John Montgomery, who with his brothers, James and Samuel, came from Ireland. John and Samuel settled in Colerain township, and James in Eden. They were all widely known as farmers and dealers in stock. The body of the deceased was taken to Quarryville this morning.
