MANHEIM, March 12 – Joseph R. Shelly, one of the most highly respected men in this community, died at his home, in Rapho township, near the borough limits, yesterday afternoon. His death was caused by a stroke of apoplexy. He is survived by a wife and six children: Hattie, Ada, Sallie, Charles and George, staying at home, and Herman, who is attending Ursinus college. Mr. Shelly was an active member of St. Paul's Reformed church, of this borough, and was an elder in that body at the time of his death. His funeral will be held on Monday morning at 9 o'clock at the house; at 10 o'clock in the Reformed church. Lancaster Intelligencer, Friday, March 12, 1897
