Wolfe, one of the most prominent and highly respected citizens of this community, passed peacefully away at his home on the road leading from Maytown to Bainbridge on Saturday. He had been in failing health for nearly a year, but was only seriously ill for about six weeks when he was taken to the Medico-Chi Hospital Philadelphia, to be operated on for a brain tumor, but at the institution they would not perform the operation as it was considered too dangerous. Deceased was born at Herndon, Northumberland county, May 5, 1858, and had therefore just passed his fifty-third birthday anniversary. He was a son of the late Samuel and Catharine Ann Wolfe and obtained his education in the public schools of the vicinity. When a young man he came to Lancaster county, and finally settled in this place, residing here nearly thirty years. His chief vocation was farming, at which he was an expert, in all its branches. Mr. Wolfe was married to Miss Harriet Zeager, of Mount Joy, who survives, with one daughter, Mrs. Oscar V. Ranneis, of Rowana. A number of brothers and sisters also survive: John Wolfe, of this place, is one of his brothers. He was a member of St. John Lutheran church for many years. Mr. Wolfe was a quiet, unassuming man, and had many friends who will be sorry to learn of his death. The funeral will take place from his late home tomorrow afternoon at two o'clock, Rev. G. Arthur Fry, pastor of the Lutheran church, will officiate. Interment in the Lutheran cemetery. Lancaster Intelligencer, September 11, 1911
