Married in Kentucky Day Express on Thursday brought to Lancaster Mr. William H. Hartman and his bride. Mr. Hartman formerly lived in this city, but he is now general manager of the Keys Creek Lumber Company, at Normal, Kentucky. On Wednesday Mr. Hartman was wedded to Miss Emma Mitchell, who resides in Boyd county, in the Blue Grass State. The ceremony was performed at the residence of the bride's parents. The wedding was attended by Mr. Lewis S. Hartman, of this city, who is an uncle of the happy groom. Thursday evening Mr. Hartman and his bride were serenaded at the home of the groom's mother on West Chestnut street. It was a genuine, real old time callithumpian serenade, with firecrackers and fireworkds thrown in as a sort of dessert. The loud groaning of the so-called "horse-fiddle" composed of a tobacco case and a floor joist, aroused the neighborhood for blocks around. The serenaders were numerous and each carried one of the old police rattles, used many years ago, in lieu of a whistle, to summon help. The rattles make a tremendous racket, and combined with the tender notes of the horse fiddle and the roar of the giant firecracker, pandemonium reigned for some time. Mr. Hartman afterward entertained the serenaders with a repast at John A. Snyder's saloon, North Queen street. The Lancaster Daily Examiner, Friday, January 24, 1890 MARRIED. HARTMAN - MITCHELL.
