Cornelius Buried Today At his home at No. 5 Bluff Street, where he had resided tor many years, death came Saturday evening, July 6, to Jesse S. Cornelius, a well known resident of the city. Mr. Cornelius had been an invalid for about 11 years, but about four months ago, became much worse, and had since that time been confined to his bed. His death was caused by uremic poisoning. Deceased was 71 years of age. He was born near McKees Rocks, but had resided in New Castle for many years past. He was formerly tax collector, but for a number of years past, had been unable to engage in active business life on account of ill health. He was a Veteran of the Civil war, having served with Company D, 14th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Cavalry. He also belonged to a number of orders and secret societies, among them the G.A.R., Knights of Pythias, Protected Home Circle, and the A.O.U.W.. He was a member of the Central Presbyterian Church at the time of his death. For many years he was a member of the Westfield Presbyterian Church, during the pastorate of the late Reverend William Taylor. He is survived by his wife and the following children: Mrs. John Atkinson of this city, Mrs. Robert Atkinson of Union township, Maxwell Cornelius. Mrs. George R. Dufford and Samuel M. Cornelius, all of this city. Three brothers and five sisters are living also. They are Reverend Samuel A. Cornelius of Oil City, William of Youngstown, James C. of Minier, Illinois; Mrs. Elizabeth Lemon of Pittsburgh; Mrs. Jennie Whislor of Mackanaw, Illinois; Mrs. Mary Thompson of Youngstown, 0hio; Mrs. Margaret Austin of Los Angeles, California; and Mrs. Martha Fox of Colton, Colorado. Funeral services Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the late residence, and interment at Greenwood Cemetery. News Castle News, New Castle, Pa., July 10, 1907, page 12
