Uriah McCreary, born Feb. 4, 1805, and his wife, Ann Adams McCreary lived in Hillsville, Mahoning Township, Lawrence Co., PA. From: The New Castle Courant, New Castle, PA., 08-12-1887, p. 2 Uriah McCreary, of Hillsville, one of the pioneers of Lawrence county, died at Hillsville, Saturday. He was a citizen of New Castle fifty years ago. _____________ Samuel McCreary lived in Hillsville, Mahoning Township, Lawrence County, PA. From: The Guardian, New Castle, PA, 11-23-1893, p. 4 Samuel McCreary, one of Lawrence counties oldest citizens peacefully passed away at his home Nove. 23. He was respected and honored by all who knew him, and was one of Lawrence counties old land marks, passing his 83rd year the 10th of last Sept. His death is a loss to the whole community. He was the eldest of a family of nine children, three of which survive him. McCreary Born in North Beaver Township, Lawrence Co., PA. From: The New Castle News, New Castle, PA, 04-27-1895, p. 1. Lewis C. McCreary, a well known citizen of this place, died Friday, April 26, aged 48 years. Mr. McCreary was employed as a teamster for Jesse Hamilton and was at work last Monday. Tuesday he was taken ill with the pneumonia in its worst form and died Friday as stated above. He was born in North Beaver township in 1847. When the war broke out, although he was only 14 years of age, he tried to enlist but was refused. In 1864, when he was 17 years of age, he again offered his services but was refused on account of his age. Nothing daunted, he went to New Brighton and there enlisted in Co. G. First Pa. Light Art. and served during the remainder of the war. He leaves a wife and two children to mourn his loss and they have the sympathy of the entire community in their sad bereavement. Funeral services will be held Sunday from his late residence, 161 Shenango street, at 4:30 o'clock. Interment in Greennwood cemetery. Carriages from Offutt, White & Co.'s at 3:30 p.m. By request all old soldiers, who can do so, will assemble at New Castle Post room at three o'clock p.m. and attend the funeral in a body. It is earnestly hoped that every old soldier will be present to tender this last token of respect for one of our late comrades. Mrs. Ann McCreary, widow of the late Joseph McCreary, died last week near New Bedford. She was 36 years of age, and had long been a sufferer from consumption. She leaves three children. ____________ Julia Boyle McCreary The wife of Ransom McCreary of Hillsville, Mahoning Township, Lawrence Co., PA. From: The New Castle News, New Castle, PA, 11-27-1922, p. 2 Mrs. Julia McCreary, aged 74 years, wife of Ransom McCreary and a member of the prominent and well known families of the community in which she lived, died Sunday afternoon at one o'clock at the family home in Hillsville after an illness of four months duration. Mrs. McCreary was a consistent and life long member of the Hillsville Methodist church and had always taken an active part in all the activities of church work as long as her health permitted. She was married 49 years ago, July 20, 1872 to Mr. McCreary who survives her with three children, Mrs. Fred McBride of West Middlesex, Murt A. McCreary of Union Bridge, Md., and Hugh McCreary of Hillsville: also one sister, Mrs. Miller Warner of Lowellville and two brothers, Edward Boyle of Youngstown and Hugh Boyle of Lowellville and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock from her late residence in charge of Rev. Scott of the Methodist church at Hillsville. The interment which will be private will be made in the Hillsville cemetery. __________ Murt McCreary The son of Julia Boyle McCreary and Ransom McCreary of Hillsville, Mahoning Township, Lawrence Co., PA. From: The New Castle News, New Castle, PA, 11-16-1923, p. 2 Murt A. McCreary, former well known resident of Hillsville and superintendent of the Union Bridge Limestone Co. of Maryland, died at his home in Union Bridge, Wednesday, Novemeber 14, after an illness of two months due to complications. Mr. McCreary was 49 years of age. He was born in Hillsville, August 14, 1874 and had spent his life there until about three years ago when he left to make his home in Maryland. He was a member of Marietta Lodge, Knights of Pythias of Mt. Jackson and of the Methodist church of Hillsville. Besides his father, Ransom McCreary of Hillsville, he leaves his widow and three daughters, Miss Edythe McCreary, Mrs. Howard Bond and Mrs. Lawrence Miller, one granddaughter, one sister, Mrs. Fred McBride and one brother Hugh McCreary of Hillsville. His mother preceded him in death about one year ago. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from his father's home in Hillsville, in charge of Rev. Scott of the Methodist church. Burial will be made in the Hillsville cemetery. ___________ Samantha Gongaware McCreary The wife of Lewis C. McCreary, reared in North Beaver Township, Lawrence Co., PA. From: The New Castle News, New Castle, PA, 11-19-1928, p. 2. Mrs. Smantha McCreary, widow of Lewis C. McCreary, died at the home of her son, Joseph G. McCreary, 212 Locust street, Monday, Nov. 19, 1928, at 1:45 a.m. after an illness of two weeks due to pneumonia. Mrs. McCreary was born in Leetonia, O., on March 13, 1853, the daughter of Joseph and Martha Gongaware, and was 75 years of age. She had been a resident of this city for the past 55 years and was well and favorably known in a wide circle of friends. She was a member of the Central Christian Church and the Protected Home Circle. She leaves two sons, Joseph G. and Lewis W. McCreary: one brother, Aaron Gongaware, Leetonia, O., several grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 21, 1928, at 2:30 p.m. at the home of her son, Joseph G. McCreary, 212 Locust street, with Rev. J. B. Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown, OH 07-10-1931. _________ Ransom McCreary The son of Ann Adams McCreary and Uriah McCreary of Hillsville, Mahoning Township, Lawrence Co., PA. From: The New Castle News, New Castle, PA, 01-29-1937, p. 2 Ransom McCreary, aged 90 years, a lifetime resident of Hillsville and proprietor of a harness shop for more than a half a century, died at his home today at 1:15 a.m. Mr. McCreary was born in Hillsvile on April 1, 1846. His father was a harness maker and taught his son the trade when very young. For more than 50 yeas he conducted his own shop. He was a member of the Hillsville M. E. church. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Maude McBride: a son Hugh McCreary, of Hillsville: five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at the residence on Monday afternoon at two o'clock and burial will be made in the Baptist cemetery at Hillsville. At present the body is at the Cunningham funeral home in Lowellville, O., but it will be removed to the residence Saturday morning. ___________ Hugh McCreery Former New Castle, PA Resident. From: The New Castle News, New Castle, PA, 02-20-1947, p. 27 Hugh McCreery Dies At Ambridge Former Manager of Gibbs Peoples Service Store, this City, Expires Suddenly Local relatives have received a message, telling of the death of Hugh McCreery, on Wednesday evening after a heart attack while at work at the Gibbs Peoples Service Store, Inc. Ambridge, where he was employed as manager. Mr. McCreery, who had been ill for two months was manager of Gibbs store, this city, until moving four years ago to Baden, Pa., to accept his new position at Ambridge. While residing in New Castle, Mr. McCreery attended Highland U.P. Church. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Margaret Hamilton McCreery, one son, Hugh McCreery, Jr., three brothers, Everett McCreery, Carl and Lee McCreery, both of Bolivar and several cousins in New Castle. Everett McCreery who has been in Assiut, Egypt, is en route home having stopped to visit at New Zealand. He plans to leave there February 28. Friends are being received this evening and Friday evening at the Matter funeral home, Church street, Ambridge. The body will be removed to the United Presbyterian church, Fairfield, Pa., where funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 1 o'clock. __________ Mary Ann Antibus McCreary The wife of Murt McCreary, the son of Julia Boyle McCreary and Ransom McCreary of Hillsville, Mahoning Township, Lawrence Co., PA. Mrs. Mary Ann McCreary, aged 71 years, died this morning at her residence, 16 1/2 East Ravenwood avenue, Youngstown, O., after an extended illness. She was the widow of Murt A. McCreary, who preceded her in death in 1923. Born March 21, 1876, at Lowellville, O., she was a daughter of the late John and Margaret Ready Antibus. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Virginia Bond, Washington, D.C.: Miss Edythe McCreary and Mrs. Maude miller, both at home, and two granddaughters. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Cunningham funeral home in Lowellville. Interment will take place in Lowellville cemetery. From: The New Castle News, New Castle, PA, 09-11-1954, p. 2. Hugh (Doc) McCreary, aged 73, of Hillsville, Pa., died in the Jameson Memorial Hospital on Friday following an illness. Born in Hillsville, May 2, 1881, he was a son of Ransom and Julia Boyle McCreary. He had resided in Hillsville all his life. Mr. McCreary had been an employee of the Cunningham furniture store in Lowellville, O., for 30 years until his retirment seven years ago. Prior to World War I, he operated a jitney service from Lowellville to Bessemer. The deceased was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie Miller McCreary some years ago. He was a member of Hillsville Methodist church. Surviving are one son, Dr. Fred R. McCreary, Erie, one sister, Mrs. Fred McBride, Hillsville. Services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. from the Cunningham funeral home in Lowellville with the Rev. James Williamson of the Edinburg-Hillsville Methodist churches in charge. Interment will be at Hillsville. Miss Edythe Marie McCreary aged 57, former resident of Hillsville, of 117 South Cadillac Drive, Youngstown, died in the South Side Hospital, Youngstown at 2:30 p.m. Thursday. She had suffered a stroke. Born in Hillsville, Pa., August 5, 1897, she was a daughter of Murt and Mary Ann Antibus McCreary. She had resided in Youngstown for the past 32 years and was a member of the Epworth Methodist church of that city. Surviving are two sisters: Mrs. (Virginia) Howard C. Bond, of Washington, D.C. and Mrs. Maude Miller of Youngstown. Services will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. from the Cunningham funeral home in Lowellville, Ohio with Rev. M. A. Chaffee in charge. McCreary Miller The daughter of Murt and Mary Ann Antibus McCreary reared in Hillsville, Mahoning Township, Lawrence Co., PA. From: The Youngstown Vindicator, Youngstown, OH, 11-04-1968, p. 31, Col. 3 Mrs. Maude M. Miller, 65, of 10473 Gloria Ave., Cincinnati, formerly of Youngstown, died of a stroke at 1:45 p.m. Sunday in Jewish Hospital in Cincinnati. Mrs. Miller was born on Dec. 10, 1902, in Hillsville, Pa., daughter of Mert and Mary Ann Antibus McCreary. She lived at Youngstown most of her life, moving to Cincinnati six years ago. She was employed in the cashier's office of Truscon Division, retiring in 1958 after 36 years of service. She was a member of the Arlington Presbyterian Church in Cincinnati. She leaves a daughter, Mrs. William Waite of Cincinnati: a sister, Mrs. Howard C. Bond of Wshington, D. C., and two grandchildren. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Lowellville Chapel of the Cunningham Funeral Home, where friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. *Note: Mrs. Maude M.
