H. Zweitzig, No. 19 South Fourth street, on Thursday evening. The following were present: Ladies – Anna Mason, Maggie and Ida Hopewell, Maggie Lewis, Addie Smith, Lizzie Mellman, Bella Beard, Bertha Lynch, Sarah Graeff, Grace Hockley, Prudence Flemming and Lydia Mason. Gentlemen – Edward Mellman, John, William and George Hockley, George Gates, Robert Sharp, John Reich, Jesse Beard, Clarence Jeffries, Stanton Shay, John Shoop and Charles Weigley. The time was very pleasantly spent in social conversation, instrumental and vocal music and innocent games. Refreshments were also served during the evening. BIRTHDAY SURPRISE. Miss Edna J. Heck, of No. 2017 Church street, on Wednesday celebrated her birthday. In the evening, in honor of the event, a surprise was tendered her by a number of her friends. The surprise was a grand success, but the young lady was equal to the emergency and before the guests took their departure an excellent lunch was served them. Miss Heck was the recipient of many handsome presents together with the hearty congratulations of those present. MRS. EMBICH SERIOUSLY ILL. Chief Riley Ringler received word on Wednesday evening that his daughter, Mrs. Frank Embich, at Kansas City, Kansas, was seriously ill of blood poisoning. During yesterday he received another telegram which stated that she was slightly better and that the husband had better hopes for her recovery. Mr. Embich removed to Kansas City about nine years ago, and is getting along very well. Chief Ringler was greatly distressed when he first received the news of his daughter's illness. MAY LOSE HER EYESIGHT. Mrs. Nicholas Loehle, residing at 749 Church street, is a great sufferer from cataract. About a year ago one of her eyes became so seriously affected that an operation became necessary, but withal she lost the sight of it. Now the other eye is becoming affected and it is feared that she will be entirely deprived of her eyesight. She is the mother of Druggist Loehle and great sympathy is felt for her in her severe affliction. SLIGHT FIRE AT REISTVILLE. A slight fire was discovered yesterday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock in the kitchen of the residence of Samuel Kutz, sr., at Reistville. By the prompt response of the neighbors the fire was extinguished before much damage was done. DISCHARGED FROM PRISON. Robert Hissner was discharged from prison today, having served 30 days for assaulting an officer. POLICE NEWS. Chief Ringler this morning arrested Elmer E. Roath, who was peddling cigars in this city in violation of the license law. Mayor Garrett called in City Solicitor Fisher and upon his opinion discharged the prisoner, who promised to leave town at once. DELIVERY TRAINS COLLIDE. The ice wagon of Hon. Andrew Light collided with the delivery team of J. Warren Light at Fourth avenue and Lehman street this morning. The collision was caused by the reckless driving of the driver of the ice wagon, who was drunk. Grocer Light's wagon was badly damaged and a number of eggs and provisions were thrown out. ALDERMANIC NEWS. Alderman R. L. Miller on Thursday afternoon gave a hearing to J. M. Lindsley, who was charged with committing an assault and battery on David Shott, and at its conclusion discharged him and directed the prosecutor to pay the costs. Wm. Zorn, who was charged with the larceny of a wheelbarrow belonging to Matthew Schweigler, was giving a hearing before Alderman C. O. Booth this morning. The intent was not clearly proven and the charge of malicious mischief, which was subsequently preferred, was withdrawn and Zorn directed to pay the costs, amounting to $8.24. POOL ROOM SOLD. William E. Bowman has sold his interest in the Lebanon Valley house pool room to Charles Frantz, who took charge of his purchase on Thursday. Mr. Bowman will engage in other business.
