Will Leave for Florida.

Thursday Miss Kathryn Shenk, of Philadelphia, daughter of J. M. Shenk, this 
city, Mr. and Mrs. C. Shenk and Miss Gettle, this city, will join a party of New 
York and Philadelphia tourists who will leave for Daytona, Fla., where they will 
remain some time.  During their stay there the Lebanon party will stop at the 
Oakland hotel.  J. M. Shenk expects to join the party a week later.


GOT A DUCKING.
Doctor Hershey Makes a Narrow Escape From Drowning.

Dr. M. L. Hershey, of Derry Church, was precipitated into the waters of the 
Swatars creek and narrowly escaped drowning last Monday afternoon, because of 
rotten sills(?) in a bridge near Sand Beach.

Dr. Hershey had crossed the bridge scores of times within the last several 
months, but never suspected that the structure was unsafe.  When he attempted to 
cross Monday afternoon the bridge gave way just as he had reached the middle, 
and at which point the water in the creek was, of course, the deepest, being 
about eleven feet deep.  When the doctor found himself and his team in the water 
he kept his head and by good management reached a low place and was able to 
reach shore without injury, save a complete drenching of his clothing.

BIRTHDAY PARTY

A birthday party was held last evening at the parsonage of St. John Reformed 
church, under the auspices of the Young People's Association.  Refreshments were 
served to all participants, and a pleasant social time was enjoyed.  All invited 
guests were expected to deposit in little silk bags, furnished by the society, a 
sum of money equal to one cent for every year of their age, and a handsome 
amount was realized.


SOCIAL EVENTS

Miss Lydia Gerberich, of South Fourth street, was agreeably surprised last 
evening, when a number of friends tendered her a surprise in the shape of a 
masquerade party.  A most delightful evening was spent and the guests enjoyed a 
fine repast.


Will Visit His Former Home.

Rev. Henry H. Ranck, pastor of St. John's Reformed church, and Mrs. Ranck will 
leave today on a ten days' visit to his former home in Lancaster county.  On 
Sunday Rev. Ranck's pulpit will be occupied by Rev. Harry Bright, of Norristown.
