Dr. A. S. Smith, of Lebanon, has announced himself as a candidate for Director of the Poor, at the next Republican Primaries. Prof. S. P. Beekey tendered a reception to the members of the Sunday School class of the Reformed church at his home last Thursday evening. Prof. C. S. Ritter of Stouchsburg will conduct a dancing school at this place. The first instruction in the art will take place next Wednesday evening. Good Will Hall has been leased for the purpose. Edward Fisher will move to Fredericksburg in Spring, and manage the creamery which he recently purchased. His father-in-law John Miller will accompany Mr. Fisher and make his home with them. Milton Rabold, employed by farmer Henry Kline, east of town, was severely bitten in the lip, on Wednesday, by a dog belonging to Mr. Kline. The dog was lying at a door back of the house and when Rabold passed, he sprang up and attacked him. The barn and stables of butcher Saml. Kleppinger, near Sigfrid, Pa., was destroyed by fire on Thursday night, of last week, of unknown origin. One hundred head of live stock consisting of one carload of fine cattle, one carload of hogs and 11 horses were burned to death, besides the season's crops. The owner estimates his loss to be $7,000. PASTOR RESIGNED. Rev. W. K. Fisher, pastor of Zion's Lutheran Church, Jonestown, tendered his resignation. Rev. Fisher has served the congregation for five and one half years. By his untiring effort more than three score of persons were added to the membership of the church, in spite of the industrial decay of the town. The action of the Lutheran Ministerium in adding several more congregations to the Jonestown charge led Rev. Fisher to resign. The work having become too laborious. The retiring minister is a son of Mrs. Elizabeth Fisher of this place. PERSONALS. Miss Carrie Yost who had been the guest of the family of Dr. R. Z. Clemmer at Philadelphia for several weeks, returned to her home beginning of this week. Robert Heilman and wife of Lebanon, were guests of the family of P. W. H. Bordner and family, on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. John Price, and children of Penbrook were visiting friends at West Myerstown, during the week. E. J. Coover, manager of the Pennsylvania telephone lines of Lancaster Co., called on his mother Mrs. Ellen A. Coover on Tuesday. He returned same evening for Lancaster city. Mr. Miles Bordner, and family of Millersburg were guests of his parents Mr. and Mrs. Adam Bordner, on Thursday. Miss Beulah Martin of Pinegrove, spent several days with the family of her uncle George Martin. BETHEL I. B. Klinger, John S. Bordner, Edwin Peiffer, William Wolf and Mrs. Jonathan Stump, were in Reading, on Saturday. Frank Frantz will take possession of the farm of Michael Zeller, situated about ® mile Southwest of town in Spring. F. S. Holtzman lost a heavy hog by strangulation. Thomas Kline, of Limerick, Montgomery county, was the guest of his parents, William D. Kline and wife. Frank Foltz received employment as teamster for Jacob Livingood North of town. The position was formerly held by Morris Bordner, who resigned. Joseph and Henry Smith and Joe. Moyer, of Reading, spent a few days at Centre House, S. J. Bordner, Prop. Mrs. Cora Dubbs, who was sick, is convalescing.
