Dr. C. A. Bowman addressed the Y. M. C. Association of Lebanon on Sunday afternoon. George Peiffer and family who recently moved here from Pottstown, shipped their effects to Reading where they will reside. Merchants W. H. Tice, H. L. Corl and L. G. Hess spent several days in Philadelphia this week purchasing a stock of holiday goods. The Myerstown Athletic Association contemplate conducting a fair in one of the town halls commencing some time in January next. The Acme orchestra furnished music for a sociable at Strausstown on Saturday evening. Farmer John Oxenreiter conveyed the orchestra members. Dr. A. C. Bowman, dean of Albright College, attended the sessions of the College and Preparatory School Association held in New York several days this week. The local order of Independent Americans will attend divine services in the Lutheran Church on Sunday evening. The pastor Rev. A. E. Youse will deliver the discourse. Mr. J. M. Miller while adjusting a screw part of it flew into his left eye and lacerating the pupil. The injury was dressed by a physician and no ill effects are expected however the eye was badly injured. Mr. and Mrs. F. B. Huber and daughter Miss May, and son A. P. Huber and wife were in attendance at the funeral of Mrs. Daniel S. Heitzman, late of Reading. Deceased is a sister in law of Mrs. F. B. Huber. Frank Yiengst, has the contract for making the new engine house in the borough of Richland. The building will be frame and is to quarter the chemical engine recently received. The second floor will be used as a meeting hall of the Borough Council. Miss Leah Loose, is recovering from a slight attack of pneumonia. The primary school of which she is the teacher in the High School building is being conducted by Mrs. S. P. Beckey. Miss Effie Miller who had charge of the school last week resigned to continue her studies at Albright College. Miss Beulah Smoyer accepted a position as clerk in the Department Store. Mrs. Edward Urich of West Myerstown is ill with pneumonia. R. Frank Holtzman was granted letters of administration on the estate of the late Harry J. Immel of this place. Messrs Ralph and Joseph Smoyer will leave on Saturday on a several days visit to their brother J. Seibert in New York City. William H. Peiffer an aged citizen of this township was discharged from the County jail Wednesday after serving a sentence for surety of the peace. Prof. Charles Ritter will conduct a dance in the Good Will Hall on Saturday evening, November 30. The Acme Orchestra will furnish the music. John Fitterer, keeper of the toll gate at the western portion of town, killed a hog that weighed 411 pounds when dressed and produced 3 stands of lard. Raymond Reinoehl is confined at the home of his parents Mr. and Mrs. John Reinoehl suffering with a slight attack of pneumonia. Dr. W. C. Kline and wife, Mrs. Margaret Mengle, Mrs. Lynda James and Ivan Kline accompanied the teacher's excursion to Washington on Thursday. Mr. Samuel Groh and bride, of Bethel and Mr. and Mrs. Miles Schaeffer and wife of Middletown, were entertained on Sunday by Edward Karsnitz and family. E. J. Coover of York, Pa., spent Sunday the guest of his mother Mrs. Ellen Coover. Mr. Coover attended a reception given to the managers of the Penna Telephone Co., at Harrisburg on Saturday evening. Mrs. D. Schneider, wife of a missionary of the Reformed Church, now in Reading, has been awarded a medal by the empress of Japan in recognition of her services among the soldiers in Japan during the war with Russia. Mrs. Schneider was active in missionary work among the Japanese soldiers. DOUBLE TEAM RUNS AWAY The double team of Ephraim Erb, of Millbach, ran away from the lumber yard of Isaac B. Haak on Friday. The wagon had been loaded with lumber and during the absence of Mr. Erb who had gone to the office of the yard the animals ran away. In their flight the lumber was scattered along the alley leading to Main street. At the home of J. H. Wilhelm the animals proceeded over Railroad street and at the residence of Asaph Edris one of the horses fell and runaways caught. The horse was slightly injured in the fall and the wagon was partly wrecked. PERSONALS Geo. W. Donges of Philadelphia, called on relatives here on Friday of last week. Geo. Leiss of Reading spent Sunday with his mother Mrs. Elizabeth Leiss. Lorenze Blecker and wife entertained Miss Emaline Kessler and daughter of Richland. Mrs. Louisa Spangler, Misses Mable Gass, Sallie Kreitz and Mary Noll, were guests of friends at Hokeudauqua, Pa. W. H. Tice and wife were guests of friends in Robesonia on Sunday. Dr. and Mrs. M. J. Collins, Frank Emerich and family Mrs. Stephen Bordner and Mrs. Samuel Ingham were visitors in Reading on Sunday. G. D. Livingood and wife had as guests the family of their sons John of Richland and Isaac of Hummelstown on Sunday. Mrs. Valeria Behney and son Charles of Collegeville are guests of Mr. and Mrs. George D. Coover. Mrs. Thomas Earle of Philadelphia who had been a visitor here, returned to her home on Monday.
