Rev. C. A. Butz sold his double building lot, on North College street, to Frank M. Werner, baker, of Fredericksburg. James Reber and family who had been spending the summer at this place returned to their home, in Reading, for the winter. Prof. J. M. Strohl presented a piano to his wife. The instrument was sold and delivered by the Miller Organ and Piano Co. Lebanon. John Bollinger, butcher, has introduced an up to date cold storage system in his slaughtering house. John can now boast of having the most complete butchery in Lebanon county. Mrs. and Mrs. Calvin Groh, Mrs. Ellen Coover, Mrs. Emma Coover, Mrs. Priscilla Haak and Mrs. Lynda James, were in attendance at the funeral of the Rev. W. H. Groh, at Carlisle, last Friday. Harry F. Walters, of Lebanon, who was a delegate of Camp 381, above city, at the P. O. S. of A. convention, at Hazelton, last week, was a surprised man when he returned home. The stork in the mean time delivered twin babies, a boy and girl, in the family. Rev. John Herr performed the ceremony that united in marriage Matthew R. Hoffman, of Harrisburg, and Miss Elizabeth P. Lesher, daughter of Davilla Lesher, this place. The ceremony was private and was performed at the home of Rev. Herr on Tuesday. Capt. John P. Williams, one of the most prominent citizens, of Walnut, Iowa, passed this life, at the advanced age of almost 81 years. Deceased is the father of Mrs. Jerome Spangler, of above city. Mrs. Spangler and daughter, Miss Harriette, during the month of July were guests of relatives and friends, at this place. Mrs. P. Frank Leininger was taken seriously ill. She is gradually growing better. Henry L. Corl is assisting in appraising the stock of a general merchandise store in Wernersville. John P. Miller sold three of his East Main St. houses to John H. Miller, Simon and Samuel Deck on private terms. Jacob Kurtz, of Iowa Center, Ia., and David Kurtz and wife, of Meckville, were guests of Mrs. Emma Kurtz. Prof. J. Edwin Uhrich left to resume his duties as principal of the North Branch, N. J. schools. The Acme band will give its weekly concert in front of the residence of Mr. Harry Dietz, East Main St., this evening. All doubt as to the fate of Andrew J. Shutter, Jr., of Cornwall, who left these parts about four years ago and who was thought to have been murdered on the Isthmus of Panama, has been dispelled by a letter from a friend at that place. The letter states that the unfortunate young man met his death in a fall of rock in a tunnel at the canal operations, and that five others met the same fate at the same time. SUSTAINS INJURY IN A FALL M. H. Manderbach, this place, latter part of last week, was notified of the serious condition of his step mother, Mrs. Kate Manderbach, residing with her daughter, Mrs. Dr. W. B. Dewes at Salina, Kan. Mrs. Mandervach had been on a visit to another daughter, Mrs. John Watson, at Clayton, Kan., and while walking in the yard, slipped and fell, fracturing her hip bone. She was immediately removed to the Dewes home where she is confined. The fracture was reduced by physicians. Mrs. Manderbach is 74 years of age, and the nature of her injury is quite severe for one in such advanced years. The lady was a former resident of this place and her acquaintances will be sorry to hear of her misfortune. LADIES IN MISHAP Miss Minnie Hummel, seamstress, of West Myerstown, and Miss Lizzie Seibert, of this place, were badly scared and fortunately escaped a serious mishap on Sunday afternoon on the crossing at the corner of Main and Railroad Sts. The young ladies were on their way to attend the camp-meeting at Mt. Aetna, and in turning the corner they drove over the stone covering the culvert at the home of Dr. Addison Bower, and at the same time the horse fell. Miss Hummel, who was driving, was thrown from the vehicle and landed on her back in the hard gutter. Shortly after her fall she became unconscious and was carried to the home of Dr. Reiter where medical attention was given her. After she had recovered consciousness she was taken to her home. The young lady was badly shaken up and sustained slight bruises to her body. Miss Seibert fortunately escaped being thrown out and was unhurt. The team was the property of Cyrus Muth, of West Myerstown, and had been hired for the afternoon by the ladies. PERSONALS Mr. and Mrs. Darius Kalbach, of Reading, were Sunday guests of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Kalbach. Levi Bellesfield, of Allentown, joined his wife who is the guest of Mrs. Ellen A. Coover. He returned to his home o Tuesday. Mrs. and Mrs. A. L. Kaub, of Philadelphia, are guests of Rev. Fluck and family. C. K. Noll and family, of Reading, were Sunday guests of his mother, Mrs. Mary Noll. Miss Lizzie Fiant and Clara Lewis, of Reading, were guests of Geo. Holtzman and family. Dr. O. R. Weiser and wife, who were guests of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Weiser, returned to their home in Philadelphia. Elias Ludwig returned to Brooklyn, N. Y., after spending a week's vacation with his mother, Mrs. Mary Ludwig and the family of Calvin Groh. Frank Righter and family, of Philadelphia, were guests of F. S. Carmany and family, over Sunday. A. E. Wickel and wife of West Lawn, and Mrs. Irene Bowman, of Reading, were guests of the former's son, Elmer Wickel and family, of South Cherry St. Miles P. Schaeffer and wife, of Palmyra, were Sunday guests among friends here. Mrs. Clara Spangler is entertaining her sister, Miss Mary Huber, of Phila. Charles P. Frantz and family had as guests L. H. Peffer and family, of Phila, and C. G. Dohner and family, of White Oak. Mrs. Caroline Tice and Miss Mabel Fluck spent several days of last week with friends in Phila. Henry High and wife, of Reading, Miss Lillie Lengle and Harry Illig, of Womelsdorf, were guests of Mrs. Rebecca Zartman and family. Mrs. Kate Groh accompanied her daughter, Mrs. Milton Wolfe, on a visit to the latters home, in Phila. Miss Hermine Hoffman also accompanied the ladies. Mrs. Kate Hicks, of Ephrata, was the guests of Adam Schaeffer and wife. Station Agent Wilson Moyer and family, were guests of G. D. Livingood and wife, on Sunday. T. P. Kilmer and wife, who were guests of the latter's mother, Mrs. Aaron Mosser, returned to their home in Reading. Miss Elmira Fisher, who had been visiting her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John C. Deppen, returned to her home in St. Louis, Mo., Wednesday. Mrs. Rosa Strohm, of Lebanon, in company with her daughter, Mrs. Rev. Paul Gerhart and child, of Orwigsburg, spent Monday among relatives here. Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Christ, of Steelton, are guests of the family, of John Bordner. Mrs. Anna Dechert, of Lebanon, spent Sunday among friends here. Robert Woomer, of New York City, is spending the week at the home of his mother, Mrs. Amanda Woomer.
