S. Karsnitz, Richard J. See, Harry Gernert, Nathaniel D. Uhrich, Howard Herbine and P. Frank K. Leininger. Miss Henrietta Muth, of West Main street, through her attorney C. V. Henry, brought suit for damages against the Pennsylvania Telephone Company. Poles erected on her property is the cause of the action. In the temporary absence of their parents, several children of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Reidenauer, of Krumsville, went to the barn, played with matches, started a blaze which completely destroyed the structure. A passer by happened along just in time to save the children. In the Berks County Court on Monday, Judge Endlich sentenced Abraham Rosenthal to 20 years in the Eastern Penitentiary. Rosenthal was found guilty in the second degree for the murder of his brother-in-law, Lewis B. Clawson a wealthy shirt manufacturer of Reading. Harry Anspach a member of the local lodge of the Order of Independent Americans was presented with a gold button bearing the monogram of the order. It represented a prize which had been offered to the member securing the largest number of candidates for initiation. In the allotted time Mr. Anspach presented three persons who became members. Isaac S. Long left for Nebraska to look after his real estate interests in that State. The Warwick Cement Co., of Pottstown, has taken over the business of the Bassler Limestone Co. C. Bertrum Funck has been retained as manager. Mrs. John Karsnitz was tendered a handkerchief and post card surprise in honor of her birthday anniversary and was remembered by many of her friends. A party of friends was entertained at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George D. Foesig in honor of the birthday celebration of their granddaughter, Miss Mary Binner. Messrs. Stanton O. Manderbach and Stephen Painter, who were here in attendance at the funeral of their respective parent, will leave for their home in Kansas on Monday. Dr. M. J. Collins awarded the contract for the erection of his house to Minnich & Hollenbach, of Bernville. The house will be built of concrete block, the first of its kind in Myerstown. Rev. E. E. Stauffer will deliver an address at a regular meeting of the Neocosmian Literary society of Allbright College this evening. Rev. Stauffer is a member of the society. Rev. I. Moyer Hershey and family vacated the U. B. Parsonage and moved to Lancaster City where Rev. Hershey has been assigned the pastorate of the Covenant U. B. church. The parsonage here was occupied by Rev. D. S. Eshelman and family who moved here from Mt. Carmel. Rev. Dr. H. Franklin Schlegel was in attendance at the 44th annual convention of the State Sabbath School Association held in Shamokin this week. Rev. Schlegel represented the Sunday Schools of this place as a delegate. On Wednesday Rev. Schlegel delivered an address at the Christian Endeavor convention in session in the same city. Milton E. Donough during this week succeeded in securing a clear title to the property purchased of the Martin Witter estate and located on East Park St. At the time of the sale no deed of the property could be found nor had it been recorded. Papers recently found by members of the Witter family clear this defect and a clear title was given Mr. Donough. The County Commissioners appointed Harry R. Line real estate assessor of this township to succeed the late Harry B. Peiffer, deceased. During Sunday night thieves cleaned the trees of apples in the orchard of Mr. Jonathan Miller, residing about 2 miles north of this place. The fruit was carted away by a team. Mr. Miller suffered a loss in his cherry crop by thieves who stripped his trees of ox heart cherries. ATTENDING CONVENTION Quite a number of members of the Luther League connected with the local Lutheran church were in attendance at the convention of the association held in Ephrata yesterday. The delegates representing the league here were elected last Sunday evening, and consisted of the following: Miss Edith Uhrich, Mrs. F. H. Uhrich, Mrs. J. H. Yeiser, Mrs. E. E. Swonger, Mr. James Brightbill; alternates Mr. and Mrs. F. S. Carmany, C. F. Walborn, Geo. Uhrich and Miss Maggie Stambaugh. Rev. A. E. Youse, pastor, was likewise in attendance and took part in the convention exercises. ACCEPTS PASTORAL CALL Rev. Calvin K. Staudt, Ph. D., accepted the call to become pastor of the Reformed church located at Zucksville, in Northampton Co., Pa. The town has a population of almost 500 people and is located several miles from Easton. Rev. Staudt likewise received a call to become pastor of a similar congregation at Tatama, located four miles from Zucksville. PERSONALS C. F. Noll of Reading, was the guest of his mother, Mrs. Mary Noll, over Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Shultz of Pottsville, were visitors among friends here. During their stay here they were guests of Mrs. Cassie Donges. Geo. C. Rauch entertained Mr. and Mrs. G. Mason Snoke of Lebanon and Geo. Rauch, of Phila. W. H. Morris and wife, of Reading, and Robert Haak and family, of Prescott, were Sunday guests of the family of Monroe C. Haak. Mrs. Emma Moyer of Reading, spent several days the guest of her parents Mr. and Mrs. Richard Miller. Mr. and Mrs. N. J. Witmer, of Philadelphia, were guests of Miss Jane and Mr. Cyris Spangler, of West Myerstown. Dr. Charles P. Kalbach and family, of Bernville, were guests of the family of Michael Moore on Sunday. Dawson Bennetch and family, of Palmyra, were guests of the family of Levi Fisher on Sunday. Milton Fisher and wife and Richard C. Miller, of Harrisburg, were among friends here. John Stoner and family, of Reading, were guests of his mother Mrs. Susan Stoner on Sunday. John U. Gehring and wife Samuel Katterman and Charles Stoyer and family, of Reading, greeted friends here, over Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. P. K. Blecker, of Selinsgrove, spent several days here the guest of Miss Mary Blecker. They are homeward bound from a week's stay in Philadelphia. Miss Lizzie Hibshman who spent the summer months among relatives here and in Lancaster county, returned to her home in Philadelphia. Mrs. Robert Donough and children of Lebanon, spent Tuesday among relatives here. W. H. Hibshman and wife spent several days among friends in Reading. Mrs. Emma Coover who had been the guest of Mrs. Henrietta Coover for several months, returned to her home in Jersey City, N. J., on Tuesday. E. J. Coover of York, spent several days the guest of his mother, Mrs. Ellen Coover. Geo. Kurtz and lady friend of Steelton, were Sunday guests of his grandmother, Mrs. Mary Moyer. Rev. A. E. Youse conducted communion services in St. John's Church, Mt. Aetna, Sunday morning. The choir of the local Lutheran church was in attendance at this service and rendered several selections.
