Gernert, for the past 13 years tenant on the farm of Mr. Harry J. Shenk, on North College St., died suddenly early New Year's morning. Mr. Gernert had been ailing for the past year with a complication of disease, and altho unable to follow his occupation, the greater part of the time he was able to be about. Thursday his condition became worse and death followed during the early morning hours of Friday. Dr. A. W. Gernert a son, who had been in attendance attributed his death to be due to tuberculosis. Deceased was aged almost 68 years and is the first of his family to pass away. Surviving are his widow, two daughters, Mrs. Amos Rabel of Kimmerlings Church, and Miss Cora, at home, and six sons, Harry, Dr. A. W., Harvey, William and John, this place, and Joseph, of Palmyra. The funeral took place Wednesday forenoon. Services were conducted in the Lutheran church by Rev. Youse and interment made on Mt. Hope cemetery. Myerstown Enterprise, January 8, 1909
