Miller SHABODEHO@AOL.COM November 26, 2007, 9:26 am Lebanon Daily News on 11/22/2007 Banks, John Conrad Jr. John Conrad Banks Jr. LEBANON John Conrad Banks Jr., 89, of Plaza Apartments, formerly of 207 North 12th Street, Lebanon, his residence for 87 years, passed away on Wednesday, November 21, 2007, at Good Samaritan Hospital. He married Charlotte Deck Banks on December 15, 1945. They would have been married for 62 years in December. Born June 4, 1918, he was the son of the late John Conrad and Annie Messner Banks. He was a 1936 graduate of Lebanon High School. Prior to his retirement in 1981, he was employed for 32 years by the US Postal Service, Lebanon. John was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Lebanon, where he had been a Sunday School teacher and served on Church Council in years past. John was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II, having served from 19421945 in the European Theater of Operations 202nd Field Artillery in France, Germany, and Austria. He received the Purple Heart award for an injury suffered during his tour of duty. He was a member of the American Legion Post 158, Veterans of Foreign War Post 23, Perseverance Fire Company, and the Lebanon County Firemen's Association. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, John Conrad Banks, III, husband of Pamela, Old Lyme, CT, and 4 daughters: Barbara M. wife of Frank Reed, Lebanon; Carol L. wife of Charles Kline, Lebanon; Cynthia A. wife of Thomas Whitman, Middletown, MD; and Brenda L. wife of David Shultz, Lebanon. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 8 greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by 9 sisters: Lucy Banks, Irene Stump, Elizabeth Diederichsen, Sophie Kerkeslager, Marguerite Kiscadden, Eva Himmelberger, Aldah LeVan, Dorothy Pierce, and Loma Banks. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 24, 2007, at 2PM at Christman's Funeral Home, Inc. 226 Cumberland St., Lebanon, with Rev. H. James Tanner and Rev. Dr. Roger A. Bucy officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery. A viewing will be held 1 hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Salem Lutheran Church, 119 N. 8th St., Lebanon, PA 17046 or First Aid and Safety Patrol 254 S. 11th St., Lebanon, PA 17042.
