Hartman II, M.D., 81, beloved local pediatrician, of 524 S. 12th St., Lebanon, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007, in the Good Samaritan Hospital. He was the husband of Susan Gamble Hartman and the late Reah Gruver Hartman. He was born September 12, 1926, in Hershey, a son of the late Samuel A. Hartman, M.D., and the late Mary Rudisill Hartman. Dr. Hartman was the first pediatrician in Lebanon, retiring after 38 years of service to the Lebanon community, and was well known for riding his bicycle to work. He graduated in 1948 from Lebanon Valley College; a graduate of Hahnemann Medical School in Philadelphia; he served his internship at the University of Pennsylvania and residency at the Children's Hospital in Buffalo, N.Y. He was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church, Lebanon, Pennsylvania Medical Society, American Medical Association, American Academy of Pediatricians, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II as an interpreter with Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment in Japan. He was an avid gardener, enjoyed backpacking, loved classical music and was a Civil War enthusiast. Surviving in addition to his wife are children, Stuart A. Hartman, D.O., and wife JoAnn Hartman, Hershey, Craig A. Hartman and wife Donna Hartman, Gordonsville, Va., Ann H., wife of Bill Hornung, Elverson; stepchildren, Jane Sheaf, Fairfax, Va., Elizabeth Page, Lebanon, Amy Page, Lebanon; grandchildren, Stuart J. Hartman, Samantha J. Hartman, Gwendolyn Foerster, Craig A. Hartman Jr., Laura E. Hornung, Douglas S. Hornung; seven step-grandchildren; greatgrandchildren, Oliver G. Hartman, Alexandra M. Hartman, Peter M. Hartman, Jackson K. Foerster; a step-greatgranddaughter; sister, Mary Louise Sherk, Cornwall; brother, D. Willis Hartman, Cornwall. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Hartman; and a granddaughter, Jessica S. Hartman. Memorial service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Salem Lutheran Church, 119 N. Eighth St., Lebanon. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in his memory to the Good Samaritan Hospital Health Services, designating to the Pediatric Department, Fourth and Walnut streets, P.O.
