Miller shabodeho@aol.com December 6, 2007, 11:19 pm Lebanon Daily News on 12/3/2007 Lazin, Hannah Mendelsohn Hannah Mendelsohn Lazin FLORIDA Hannah Mendelsohn Lazin died peacefully at home in Sarasota, Florida, surrounded by family, on December 1, 2007, after a brief illness. She was a longtime resident of Lebanon and had homes in New York City and Sarasota. She was the wife of Dr. Charles Lazin; they were married 59 years until his death in 2003. She is survived by her children Sarah of New York City, Michael of Gainesville, Florida, Andrew (and Sherri Jonas-Lazin) of Sarasota, Steven (and Carol Kaminski) of Philadelphia, and Lauren (and Norman) Green of New York; and five grandchildren, Darrin, Jamie, Jonathan, and Ava Charlot Lazin, and Julian Green. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews. Hannah Mendelsohn was born on March 5, 1924, in Reading, Pennsylvania, the youngest child of Samuel and Sarah Mendelsohn. She is predeceased by them and her brothers Norman, Clarence, Robert, Lester and Eugene; and her sister Marjorie. She attended Phoenix College in Arizona and moved to Lebanon in 1948, where she lived until 2005. She was an active member of Beth Israel Synagogue for many years. She was secretary of the board for the synagogue and chair of the Board of Education. She was president of the local chapter of Hadassah and also was part of the regional board and served as the president of Beth Israel Sisterhood and held various chairmanships in both organizations. As well, she co-edited a cookbook published under the auspices of the synagogue, "Not for Noshers Only," and presented many papers at the Oneg Shabbat Series, in which she was also active. For many years Hannah Lazin ran the local fundraising bridge game at Beth Israel; she achieved the rank of master of duplicate bridge. She was also active in the League of Women Voters, the Good Samaritan Hospital Auxiliary and the Dental Auxiliary. Funeral services will be held at Rohland Funeral Home in Lebanon at 1 on Tuesday and burial will be at the Beth Israel Cemetery.
