Messenger, 85, of Hershey passed away Wednesday, November 28, 2007, in the M.S. Hershey Medical Center. He was born July 22, 1922, in Clarksburg, W.Va., a son of the late Okey J. and Ora (Facemire) Messenger. Mr. Messenger was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and survivor of the Pearl Harbor attack, a retired employee of the Milton Hershey School where he was a herdsman and substitute houseparent, and a member of the Union Deposit United Methodist Church. He was also an accomplished woodcarver and member of the National Woodcarvers Association, and was known as the "Vagabond Wittler." Surviving are his wife, Juanita (Wright) Messenger; two sons, Jack II and his wife Linda of Lebanon, and Jeffrey and his wife Gayle of Hershey; a sister Margaret Edminston of Missouri; six grandchildren, Douglas, Jayson, Travis, Jonathon, and Joshua Messenger and Stasia Miller; 11 greatgrandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter Elizabeth Gene Messenger. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, December 4, 2007, at 9:30 a.m. in his church. Friends may call at the church Tuesday from 9 a.m. until service time. Interment with military honors will be in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial contributions be made to his church at 34 W.
