"Dutch" Rhine, 84, of Palmyra left this earth to be with the Lord, his Savior, on Christmas Day, 2007. He was the husband of Dolly M. (Diller) Rhine. He was born to Harvey E. and Mary Ellen Barnhard Rhine on February 6, 1923, in Fontana, Lebanon County. He graduated from Hershey High School in 1941. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a lifetime member of the Fontana Christian Fellowship Church and the Fontana Union Sunday School, an Adult Choir member, and served as treasurer for many years. He worked in the wood shop at the former Olmsted Air Force Base, Middletown, for 25 years. He met Dolly there in 1943, when she was employed to support the war effort. He retired from Hain Wolf Custom Cabinetry in 1988. He was a master wood worker, and with the help of his father and wife, built the house they lived in for 60 years. He was an avid gardener, providing his family as well as many of the neighbors with fresh fruits and vegetables. His "never quit" work ethic was an inspiration to many. He is survived by his wife of almost 63 years, Dolly; his daughter Ann, New Cumberland, Pa.; three sons, Donald and his wife Lynnette of Hagerstown, Md., Edward of Seattle, Wash., and Dale and his wife Christi of West Chester, Pa. He had five grandchildren, whom he loved dearly, Matthew, Madison, Daniel, Michael and Benjamin. He is also survived by a younger sister, Doris Wilt of Santa Barbara, Calif. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Monday, December 31, 2007, from 10-11 a.m. at the Fontana Christian Fellowship Church, 22 Fontana Ave. (Route 322), followed by his funeral service with the Rev. Brian Fairling officiating. Burial will follow in the Gravel Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Fontana Christian Community Church, 22 Fontana Ave., Lebanon, PA 17042. Rothermel Funeral Home Inc. is handling funeral arrangements.
