  Showalter, Leonard Shank    
   
  Leonard S. Showalter WAYNESBORO, VA Leonard Shank Showalter, 78, departed this 
  life for his heavenly home on Friday, October 5, 2007, at his home in 
  Waynesboro. Since his birth, Leonard had fought with congenital heart problems, 
  which in later life resulted in a total of three open heart operations. One of 
  them, in 1986, resulted in his contracting Hepatitis C through blood 
  transfusions. Mr. Showalter was born in Augusta County, Virginia on March 12, 
  1929, a son of the late Ira S. and Edna Shank Showalter. He graduated from 
  Eastern Mennonite High School in 1946. After engaging in several occupations, 
  he became an owner of Weaver Insurance Agency where he worked for 35 years. 
  Prior to his insurance career, he worked in sales at Lambert Manufacturing 
  Corporation, supervising delivery of building materials. Through 2003, he spent 
  his retirement years delivering trucks up and down the East Coast for Special 
  Fleet Services. An active member of Springdale Mennonite Church, he served 
  there in various capacities over his lifetime. He enjoyed singing in quartets, 
  choral singing, and teaching Sunday School. Because of his health, he recently 
  resigned after numerous years as a board member of the Virginia Auto Aid Plan 
  in Harrisonburg. He was a past member of the Stuarts Draft Ruritan Club. He is 
  survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Ann Marie Olesh Showalter; a daughter, 
  Valerie Kay Weaver and her husband, M. Gregory Weaver, of Harrisonburg; a son, 
  Brent R. Showalter and his wife, Melissa, of Harrisonburg; two lovely 
  granddaughters, Micaela Ann Weaver and Danielle Burnette Weaver, both of 
  Harrisonburg. He leaves two sisters, Dorothy S. Shank of Myerstown, 
  Pennsylvania, and Lois S. Herr and her husband, Dr. Paul Herr, of East 
  Petersburg, Pennsylvania; a sister-inlaw, Elouise C. Showalter, of Waynesboro; 
  two brothers, W. Milton Showalter and his wife, Mary Ellen Rowe, of Waynesboro, 
  and Ralph L. Showalter and his wife, Joyce Swartz, also of Waynesboro; and 
  numerous nieces, nephews, greatnieces, and great-nephews. He was preceded in 
  death by two sisters, Marjorie S. Shank and Shirley S. Minnich; and one 
  brother, Winfred E. Showalter. A memorial service will be held at Sprindgdale 
  Mennonite Church at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, October 9, 2007. There will be a 
  private family burial. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 
  to 8:00 P.M. at McDow Funeral Home in Waynesboro. Memorial contributions may be 
  made to the Gideons International at East Augusta Gideon Camp, P.O. Box 715, 
  Waynesboro, VA 22980, the Shenandoah Valley Children's Choir, 1200 Park Road, 
  Harrisonburg, VA 22802, or Springdale Mennonite Church, 170 Hall School Road,
