Smith, 81, of North Lancaster Avenue, Schaefferstown, Pa., died Monday, November 26, 2007, while doing one of his favorite activities, hunting in the woods in the Pocono Mountains. He was born in Kunkletown, Pa., on October 31, 1926, a son of the late John and Mary George Smith. He is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Doris Feller Smith. His survivors include his daughters Gail Hibshman, wife of Glenn Hibshman, Schaefferstown, and Marylouise Gingrich, wife of Timothy Gingrich, Lebanon; grandsons Clinton Hibshman, Ephrata, Chad Hibshman, Lebanon, Daniel Moyer, Myerstown, and James Zengerle, Lebanon; and granddaughters Dana Moyer, Lebanon, Jonelle Edris, Jonestown, Cameron Moyer, Cornwall, Holly Zengerle, Lebanon. He is also survived by his greatgrandchildren, Dustan, Lebanon, Kaitlyn and Xandra, Myerstown, Victoria, Cornwall, Molly, Lebanon, and Braden, Jonestown. Also preceding him in death are his sister Mabel Paloubet, his brothers Francis Smith and Raymond Smith, and his great-grandson, Jason. Surviving siblings include Franklin Smith, Saylorsburg, Marvin Smith, Stroudsburg, Ellis Smith, Kunkletown, Earl Smith, Lehighton, Virginia Anthony, Kunkletown, Sarah Heminitz, Kunkletown, and Arlene Smith, Nazareth. Upon graduation from Polk Township High School, Harvey served his country in World War II in the U.S. Army Infantry as an expert rifleman. He was stationed in the Philippines in 19451946 with the 117th Hospital Battalion until the end of the war. After the war, he worked at Bethlehem Steel in Palmerton before enrolling in the Agricultural Science Program at Penn State University. After earning a bachelor's degree in 1952, he began his career teaching agriculture, shop and science at Schaefferstown High School. During his teaching tenure, he found time to obtain a master's degree from Penn State in 1956. Harvey taught for 17 years and worked for the Pennsylvania State Department of Education for 20 years. He later accepted a position as vocational agricultural consultant for a region of five counties. After retiring from that position, he was self- employed as an electrician, a trade he learned from his father; drove delivery truck for Layser's Flowers; and worked as a consultant for a landscaping firm. Harvey was also proficient in Pennsylvania Dutch and taught the dialect for adult classes at Eastern Lebanon County High School for many years. Throughout the years, Harvey has received numerous awards and honors from the Future Farmers of America and the National Vocational Agricultural Teachers Association for his years of dedicated and outstanding service. He received the FFA Keystone Farmer Degree in 1964 and the National Vo-Ag Certificate of Appreciation in 1988. He has received the FFA Degree of Honorary Chapter Farmer from 23 of the organization's chapters. In 1984, he was awarded the Degree of Honorary American Farmer at the National FFA Convention. In 1964, Harvey was elected and served as Justice of the Peace for Heidelberg Township. Harvey was an active member of the Kunkletown Rod and Gun Club, Grundsow Lodge No. 17 and the Mt. Lebanon Masonic Lodge No. 226 F and AM. He was past president and chairman of numerous committees, including the sight committee and organizing the Schaefferstown Halloween Parade for the Heidelberg Lions Club. He was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Schaefferstown for many years and held various positions within the church, deacon, trustee and president of the Church Council. He was an excellent husband, a loving father, and a doting grandfather. His positive attitude made him a joy to be with, and he will be sorely missed by his family and friends. He was always determined to take the optimistic viewpoint in any and every situation, and this lifelong attitude was a wonderful example to all who knew him. Memorial services celebrating a life lived to the fullest will be held in Schaefferstown's St. Luke Lutheran Church, on Saturday, December 1, 2007, at 11 a.m., with a Masonic service conducted by Mt. Lebanon Lodge No. 226 F and AM on Saturday at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Luke Lutheran Church, 107 East Main St., Schaefferstown, PA 17088; and Heidelberg Lions Club, P.O.
