Baird Foster B. Baird, age 89, died on Wednesday, May 21, 2008, in the Good Samaritan Hospital in Lebanon, Pa. He was the husband of Lily K. Baird of 134 N. Prince St., Palmyra. He was born on April 10, 1919, at Milesburg, Centre County, Pa., a son of the late Frank L. and Ora Boyer Baird. He was a graduate of the Bellefonte High School class of 1937. He retired from the U.S. Army as a chief warrant officer, after over 20 years of active service. A veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of the Palm Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 72, and the VFW Post 6417, all of Palmyra. He was also retired from the U.S. Navy Ships Parts Control Center, Mechanicsburg, Pa., where he was employed as a purchasing agent in the ammunition division. In addition to his wife, a son, Daniel S. Baird of Lebanon survives him; three daughters, Meda J. Whary of Palmyra, Kimber L. Emerick of Mountville and Renee K. Lighter of Palmyra; and two grandchildren, Mark R. Emerick and Nicole V. Whary. A son, Mark, preceded him in death. He was the last of his family. There will be no viewing. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2008, at 1:30 p.m. at the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with full military honors. The family requests no flowers; memorial contributions may be given to the Palm Lutheran Church, 11 W. Cherry St., Palmyra, PA 17078.
