"Francy" Barkus, 78, Lebanon, Pa., died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, November 18, 2008, at the M.S. Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, Pa., after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Evelyn "Becky" I. (Herring) Barkus, to whom he was married 13 years on April 24. His first wife was the late Theresa Tribioli Barkus, who died in 1982. Born in Mahanoy City, Pa., on November 29, 1929, he was the son of the late Louis and Lottie (Rish) Barkus. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He had been employed at Bethlehem Steel Corp., Lebanon, Pa., for 37 years, retiring in 1989. Following his retirement, he worked part time at Dinunzio's Shoe Repair, Lebanon, Pa. He was a member of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Lebanon, and was a life member of the Lebanon VFW Post 23. In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters Diane, wife of Niels Bilde of Hershey, Pa., and Mary S. Bishop, companion of Richard Henning of Lebanon, Pa.; step-daughters Brenda L., wife of James Williams of Robesonia, Pa., and Kim L., wife of Christopher Arnold of Lebanon, Pa.; step-sons Brian A., husband of Regina Koppenhaver of Denver, Pa., Michael A., husband of Greta Koppenhaver of Myerstown, Pa., and Eugene L., husband of Karen Koppenhaver of Myerstown, Pa.; grandchildren Joseph Bilde, Matthew and Christopher Bishop; stepgrandchildren Alex and Alyssa Williams, Erika and Christina Arnold, Lisa, Jena, Sara and Joshua Koppenhaver. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, November 24, 2008, at 12 p.m. from the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Lebanon, Pa. Viewing Monday from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. at the church. Interment at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, Pa. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 2 N. Eighth St., Lebanon, PA 17042; or "Penn State Cancer Institute," c/o Penn State Hershey Medical Center, P.O. Box 852, Hershey, PA 17033. Grose Funeral Home, Myerstown, Pa., is in charge of arrangements.
